Currency
Argentina’s currency is the Peso (ARS), and the symbol used locally for it is $ - not to be confused with the U.S. Dollar’s symbol (Argentines frequently use U$D, US$, U$ or U$A to indicate U.S. dollars). Usually prices are indicated in Pesos.
The Peso is subdivided into Centavo (1/100 Peso) and it comes in the following denominations:
Coins: 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 Centavos, 1 Peso
Banknotes: 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 Pesos
You may carry some cash in Pesos to pay for tips and remis (taxi). You will be able to exchange pesos at the Banco de la Nacion in Buenos Aires International Airport or at any ATM. U.S. Dollars are also widely accepted, although the exchange rates offered in stores may not be convenient– any change will be given in Pesos. Credit cards are almost always accepted, and they are probably the best mean of payment. The exchange rate is approximately: 1 USD=3.8 ARS.
