DuVine Festivals - Pedal Festival in Girona, Costa Bravaby Bike tour guru
The Grup Excursionista i Esportiu Gironí, or GEiEG, first started organizing the Festa del Pedal, the Pedal Festival, in 1942. In more recent years, it has been an annual occurrence that usually makes its way around the city center and outskirts of Girona, Spain. Held on the second fortnight of September, the event is meant to bring together bike riders of all ages on a day set aside for games, exercise, and fun. And, of course, a celebration of all things cycling! And that is a cause for celebration if there ever was one.
It just so happends that the DuVine Costa Brava bike tour will be traveling right through Girona just as the Pedal Festival gets underway. From September 16-21, we will be cycling around the stunning region of la Costa Brava, so a pre-trip stop in Girona may be in order to see or participate in this wonderful tradition yourself, and to celebrate your upcoming cycling tour.
With more than 6,000 cyclists participating in this biking extravaganza, the event has become incredibly popular in the city. This day of leisure is meant for fun and games, which are plentiful at Palau Center, where the ride ends. There are prizes for the best decorated bikes as well, so be prepared for some incredible and artistic sights. The mix of spirit and sport brings together a wide range of people whose interests are in both the competitive nature of cycling as well as the joy of simply riding with friends and family.
Accompanying your DuVine cycling vacation, the Pedal Festival is the perfect way to see the cycling culture in Girona and its neighboring towns. Is there any better way to enjoy a bike tour with thousands of locals, discovering some of the more intimate and treasure aspects of their culture? It looks like you'll have to find out for yourself.
