A UNESCO Adventure: Bike Tour from Prague to Vienna
by Bike tour guru
Biking through one of the most beautiful and mythical regions in Europe, visiting historic chateaux and palaces, tasting some of the finest food and wine the local growers have to offer.... What could make a bike tour any better? We aren't sure, and that's why we think a bike tour in the Czech Republic and Austria is a great mix of fun, beauty, history, and relaxation.
In addition to the beautiful roads and stellar meals, we'll visit four UNESCO protected sites along the way. So be prepared to feast your eyes on some of Europe's most fascinating cultural sites.
The rich history and beautiful settings of each stop along our route will never cease to delight. In the Czech Republic, our tour will bring us to the UNESCO Heritage Site of the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape. Between the 17th and 20th centuries, the dukes of Liechtenstein transformed this region into a truly beautiful landscape. Promoted by changing modes of thought during the Enlightenment era, the dukes were heavily invested  in producing the grandiose landscape we find there today, combining architecture and floral arrangements to strike a truly remarkable balance. It's sites like this that will blow you away day in and day out during your Czech Republic and Austria cycling vacation.
The Palava Landscape Protected Area, also in the Czech Republic, is a UNESCO biosphere reserve located in Moravia. The spectacle of the limestone rock among the Palava Hills is a beautiful contrast to the lush, green wetlands. In the southern portion of Palava is the town of Mikulov, which we'll in order to get a beautiful view of Mikulov Castle, an architectural and historical gem.
Though we cross the border into Austria halfway through the tour, that doesn't mean the sightseeing stops. On the fifth day of the tour we will make our way into the UNESCO-protected Wachau Valley. We'll start our ride in the city of Krems, taking a beautiful bike trail through medieval cities and past castle ruins. It will seem as though you are taking a ride back in time to the medieval ages.
On the final day of our trip, we'll enter Vienna, the capital of Austria, by car. This imperial city will be the final destination of our tour, and what a note to end on. This historic center is home to beautiful architectural structures, gardens, castles, monuments, and parks. If you don't want the journey to end, Vienna is also the perfect place to extend your vacation with a few extra days in this historic city.
Join us on our ride through the Czech Republic and Austria, and you'll quickly see why UNESCO wanted to preserve every stunning site we'll visit along the way.
