Cycle Canada

Well, today’s stage win forced me to get a bit more creative in suggesting a DuVine bike tour to match the day’s stage winner…since Thor Hushovd is Norweigan (and we do not, as of yet, have a bike tour in Norway!)

However…Thor does ride for TestTeam Cervelo (which is a Canadian company) and quite fortuitously, DuVine offered its 1st Canadian bike tour this past year!

Known as the Napa of the North, the Okanagan Valley is the oldest and most prolific wine region in Canada. With its smooth cycling roads, spectacular mountain vistas and beautiful lakes, the Okanagan Valley makes a gorgeous setting for a DuVine cycling tour.

So come to the Okanagan Valley this September and celebrate the company that produces the award-winning ‘machine’ that Thor and TestTeam Cervelo ride to stage victories!

Burgundy Bike Trip

And today’s yellow jersey goes to Thomas Voeckler…a native of France who rides for team Bbox Bouygues Telecom. He is considered by many to be France’s sweetheart (le chouchou) because of his young looks and his habit of sticking out his tongue in races.

Following in the trend of suggesting a fitting tour per each stage win – today’s DuVine ’stage winning’ trip would have to be our bicycle trip in Burgundy, France - as it is the closest location to Alsace, where Voeckler comes from. Not only has this region produced some world class cyclists, but is also respsonsible for some of the world’s top wines.

Whether you are looking to add some road miles to your training schedule or simply sample some of the finest vines on the Route de Grand Crus – a bike tour in Burgundy is the trip for you!

Swiss bike tour

4 days in to the 2009 Tour de France and the maillot jeune is currently held by Fabian Cancellara, a Swiss native riding for Team Saxo Bank. As we watch and wait to see if he is able to maintain the yellow jersey and hold on to the title, perhaps we should take a look at the country that produced this incredible talent and the terrain that inspired his passion for cycling during his formative years.

Born near the city of Berne, Cancellara gave up football at age 13 after falling in love with an old family bicycle he found in the garage…and the rest, shall we say, is cycling history! (It certainly didn’t hurt that he lived in the Swiss Alps – great training ground for the category climbs that make up some of the most difficult stage races in Europe!)

Come to Switzerland and explore Cancellara’s home the way he would expect of you – on bike! Our bike tour in Switzerland will find you cycling along traffic-free roadways and descending through lush vineyards into charming little villages dotted with chalets. Not to mention sampling gourmet French and German cuisine, cheese, wine, and of course, Swiss chocolate!

You needn’t train like a pro to enjoy this tour – in fact, you’ll be riding a lot more downhill than up!
