A Day of Discovery: The Prestigious Médoc Wineries

Starting at the Quai, Didier, your bilingual French guide, will welcome you to your one day tour of the Médoc region. He will brief you on the day’s activities and the history of the region during your transfer to the town of Paulliac. On your way, you will pass through the famed vineyards of Mouton Rothschild and Château Latour. The architecture of Château Cos d’Estournel, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande and Château Pichon-Baron act as a scenic backdrop to your day in the Médoc. En route, learn about the appellation of Saint Julien, seeing some of the most hailed Cabernet Sauvignon vines that belong to Château Beychevelle and Château Ducro-Beaucaillou among others.

Before embarking on a leisurely bike ride, you’ll be treated to a gourmet picnic du terroir, which will highlight seasonal products from the Bordeaux region. Relax and enjoy your lunch with a bottle of Bordeaux along the edge of the Gironde estuary. Once you begin cycling, Didier will explain the fascinating evolution of winemaking in the Médoc including the 1855 Classification of Bordeaux wines and the implications it has had for the winemaking world.

Passing though Margaux, you’ll be exposed to some of the most historic terroir, a blend of soil, weather and winemaking traditions. Decorated by famous, and beautiful châteaux, it is one of the most wonderful regions to explore on a bike. And, of course, during your journey you’ll be able to visit with a local winemaker and taste Grand Cru wines blended from some of the most famous Cabernet and Merlot grapes in the world.
