Tour by Day

Day One: Welcome to the Italian Riviera
Your guides will greet you at the Genoa Piazza Principe train station and whisk you away to the seaside town of Camogli. After a toast, we’ll set off on a short hike to a hidden village for lunch at our favorite local trattoria. After a bike fitting, safety talk, and map review, pedal through the maritime pines and coastal villas as to the seaside town of Santa Margherita. Pass palm trees and pastel buildings skirting the sea as we ride to our hotel in Portofino. Settle into your room, relax, and get ready for dinner overlooking the sea.

Meals: Light Lunch / Dinner
Destinations: San Rocco, Santa Margherita, Portofino
Accomplished: 15 miles / 25 km, elevation gain: 460 meters (plus 45-minute hike)
Accommodations: Eight Hotel Portofino

Day Two: San Fruttuoso and Cooking with Fausto
We’ll begin our day with a hike along the rocky coastline of this scenic peninsula. Our destination is the secluded tenth-century Abbey of San Fruttuoso, accessible only by foot or by boat. After lunch at Giorgio’s restaurant, take the ferry back to Portofino or challenge yourself with a hike back through the Regional Park. Spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach, kayaking, or snorkeling in the picturesque bay of Portofino. This evening we’ll visit our friend Fausto at his restaurant/home/cartoon gallery in the hills above Santa Margherita for an entertaining cooking class and Ligurian dinner using the freshest seasonal ingredients.

Day Three: Portofino to Moneglia
Starting in the port of Lavagna, we’ll pedal out of town, climbing into the coastal hills and riding through a sea of olive trees on peaceful country lanes before returning to the coast in the seaside town of Sestri Levante. The gorgeous Passo del Bracco awaits as we spin over the heights to Moneglia for a well-earned lunch by the sea. Our hotel, a converted medieval monastery, is blocks away. Relax in the cloister or stroll down to the beach before regrouping for dinner at Edoardo’s restaurant where we’ll watch the sun sink into the sea.

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
Destinations: Lavagna, Sorlana, Sestri Levante, Moneglia
Accomplished: 22 miles / 35.5 km, elevation gain: 535 meters

Day Four: Levanto and the Cinque Terre
Ride high above Moneglia to the heights of the Bracco Pass to take a sweeping descent into Bonassola. The route offers stunning views of the Mediterranean that give way to tall stands of coastal pines. Explore the old railway tunnels converted into a bike path, and enjoy the water at our favorite hidden beach. After lunch at a local trattoria in Levanto, opt for a longer extra ride back towards Moneglia, or hop on a train to spend the afternoon exploring the nearby Cinque Terre villages by foot and by rail. Your guides can offer excellent itinerary and dinner suggestions along with the all-important train schedules.

It’s the end of the week, and we’ve saved the best for last. Cycle along one of the most panoramic and quiet roads in Italy, making our way to the iconic Cinque Terre. Descend all the way to Monterosso, where our friend Stefano will welcome us aboard his boat for an afternoon exploring this fabled coastline. Enjoy a picnic onboard and swimming stops in hidden coves. Disembark at our final luxurious hotel in the fishing village of Portovenere. Enjoy the sea views and a final dinner at the top local restaurant.
