Tour by Day

Day One: Welcome to Liguria
Welcome to the Italian Riviera! Your guides will greet you at the Genoa Piazza Principe train station and bring you to our favorite local trattoria for a light lunch. After a bike fitting, safety talk, and map review, pedal through the maritime pines and coastal villas as we make our way to the seaside town of Santa Margherita. Palm trees and pastel buildings skirt the cerulean sea as we ride the final kilometers to our hotel, hidden in a cove just outside of Portofino. Settle into your room, take a swim at our private beach, and get ready for dinner overlooking the sea.

Meals: Light Lunch / Dinner
Destinations: San Rocco, Santa Margherita, Paraggi
Accomplished: 10 miles/ 15 km; Longer option: 19 miles / 31 km

Day Two: Portofino Kayaking and Cooking with Fausto
We’ll begin our day with a kayak excursion from our hotel along the rocky coastline of this scenic peninsula. Paddle into the picturesque bay of Portofino; then round the point to explore the inaccessible cliffs and stop for a swim in a secluded bay. Returning to the hotel, spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach or exploring Portofino. This evening we'll visit our friend Fausto at his restaurant in the hills above Santa Margherita for an entertaining cooking class and Ligurian dinner using the freshest seasonal ingredients.

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
Destinations: Portofino, San Fruttuoso, Santa Margherita
Accomplished: Kayaking and Swimming in the Parco Naturale di Portofino

Day Three: Portofino to Moneglia
We’ll begin our day from the port of Lavagna. Pedaling out of town we’ll climb into the coastal hills, riding through a sea of olive trees on peaceful country lanes before returning to the coast for lunch in the seaside town of Sestri Levante. The gorgeous Passo del Bracco awaits as we spin over the heights to Moneglia and our hotel, a converted medieval monastery. Relax in the cloister or stroll down to the beach before regrouping for dinner.

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
Destinations: Lavagna, Conscenti, Sestri Levante, and Moneglia
Accomplished: 22 miles / 35.5 km

Day Four: The Cinque Terre
Ride high above the coast, and cycle along one of the most panoramic and quiet roads in Italy, making our way to the iconic Cinque Terre. These five fishing villages, with their pastel houses and precarious perches above the rugged coast, are sure to capture your imagination. Our route will take us above each town before descending into Riomaggiore, the fifth and final village. From here we’ll hop on a boat to get the coastline view of each of the five ports of the Cinque Terre on our way back to Moneglia. Tonight, explore Moneglia on your own. Your guides can offer excellent dinner suggestions.

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch
Destinations: Volastra, Riomaggiore
Accomplished: 30 miles / 48.5 km

Day Five: Levanto and the Sea
We’ll start our ride high above the coast near the Bracco Pass to take a sweeping descent into Bonassola, just to the north of the Cinque Terre. The route offers stunning views of the Mediterranean that give way to tall stands of coastal pines. Explore the old railway tunnels converted into a bike path and enjoy the water at our favorite hidden beach.  After lunch at a local trattoria in Levanto opt for a quick transfer back to the hotel or an extra challenge ride climbing through the vineyards to Framura before descending to Deiva Marina and our hotel. This evening we’ll enjoy a delectable final dinner together with our friend Edoardo at his restaurant, enjoying the fabulous sunset over the sea.

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
Destinations: Levanto, Bonassola, Framura
Accomplished: 13 miles / 21 km; Longer option: 26 miles / 42 km)

Day Six: Goodbye to the Italian Riviera
Wake up this morning to the dream-like view over the Mediterranean from Moneglia. Enjoy a relaxing breakfast at the hotel and say ciao to the Italian Riviera however you see fit, lounging at the hotel or taking an optional spin. Your guides will transfer you to La Spezia, where they will see you off from the train station.
