Tour by Day

Day One: Welcome to Liguria
Welcome to the Italian Riviera! Your guides will greet you at the Genoa Piazza Principe train station and whisk you away to the seaside town of Camogli. We’ll toast the beginning of our trip and set off on a short hike to a hidden village for lunch at our favorite local trattoria. After a bike fitting, safety talk, and map review, we’ll pedal past maritime pines and coastal villas as we make our way to the seaside town of Santa Margherita. Palm trees and pastel buildings skirt the cerulean sea as we ride the final kilometers to our hotel in Portofino. Settle into your room, take a stroll around town, swim at our private beach, and get ready for dinner overlooking the sea.

We’ll begin our day with a kayak excursion along the rocky coastline of this scenic peninsula. Paddle into the picturesque bay of Portofino; then round the point to explore the inaccessible cliffs and stop for a swim in a secluded bay. Returning to the hotel, spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach or exploring Portofino. This evening we'll visit our friend Fausto at his restaurant/home/cartoon gallery in the hills above Santa Margherita for an entertaining cooking class and Ligurian dinner using the freshest seasonal ingredients.

Begin riding from the port of Lavagna. Pedaling out of town, we’ll climb into the coastal hills and ride through an ocean of olive trees on peaceful country lanes before returning to the coast for lunch in the seaside town of Sestri Levante. The gorgeous Passo del Bracco awaits as we spin over the heights to Moneglia and our hotel, a converted medieval monastery. Relax in the cloister or stroll down to the beach before regrouping for dinner at the town’s coolest restaurant.

The route offers stunning views of the Mediterranean that give way to tall stands of coastal pines. Explore the old railway tunnels converted into bike paths and enjoy a quick ocean dip at our favorite hidden beach. After lunch at a local trattoria in Levanto, we will hop on a private boat for a relaxed cruise past all the Cinque Terre villages, with plenty local history, gossip, and wit provided by Stefano, our inimitable captain. The evening will be yours to further explore the Cinque Terre as you see fit. Your guides can offer excellent dinner suggestions.

These five fishing villages with their pastel houses and precarious perches above the rugged coast, are sure to capture your imagination. Our route will take us by each town, and we’ll stop for lunch at a local wine producer nestled in the hills above the Cinque Terre before descending into Riomaggiore, the fifth and final village. From here it’s a quick train ride back to the hotel. Spend some time relaxing before our final dinner together with our friend Edoardo at his restaurant, enjoying the fabulous sunset over the sea.
