Cycle through a fairytale land of enchanting forests and charming castles. The natural UNESCO sites like the stunning Palava Hills and Wachau Valley will leave you amazed. Travel through time as we visit medieval fortresses and bike along the Iron Curtain road. With fun activities like a strudel cooking class, falconry show, and windsurfing lesson combined with fascinating cultural destinations like Prague and Vienna, this is a cycling vacation the entire family is sure to remember. Situated at the crossroads of Europe’s most powerful former dynasties, we’ll enjoy outstanding Bohemian and Austrian-influenced cuisine at every turn, washed down with a cool Pilsner or a delectable pastry.
Tour by Day
Day One: Welcome to the Czech Republic
Your guides will greet you at your hotel in Prague, and we’ll take off to the Kokorinsko nature preserve, a forested landscape laced with hiking and biking trails. Discover this spectacular place filled with sandstone formations and traditional villages, exploring by bike and on foot. We’ll visit the medieval Kokorín Castle and climb its once unconquerable tower to enjoy its unrivaled views. Our hotel tonight, the Zamek Liblice, is a charming seventeenth-century zamek (château) with exceptional hospitality. Before retiring for the evening, we’ll enjoy a gourmet dinner at the hotel’s award-winning restaurant and become familiar with the bohemian specialty par excellence – Pilsner beer.

Day Two: The Banks of the Vltava
We’ll drive this morning to get wet in the rapids, waves, and whirlpools of the Veltrusy water channel. Drying off for a picnic lunch, we’ll cycle a gorgeous trail along the Vltava riverbanks all the way to Prague. Pedal past splendid summer châteaux that belonged to noble families. Marvel at the beautifully sgrafittoed walls of the sixteenth-century palace of Nelahozeves and the Baroque Veltrusy and Trója châteaux, all settled in a wild rock valley. In Prague you’re free to relax or take a stroll through the city. Enjoy dinner on your own tonight in town.

Day Three: The Palaces of Moravia
A transfer will deliver us this morning to Breclav on the Czech-Austrian border to cycle into the UNESCO heritage sites of Lednice and Valtice, which contain two palaces of the Lichtenstein family. We’ll watch a falcon demonstration at the Lednice Château as the birds hunt fake animals in the gardens. At Valtice Château we’ll explore the fourteenth-century wine cellars before coming out to former Iron Curtain roads. Bike the whole way or take the van to Mikulov. We’ll stay in this gorgeous town for two nights at Hotel Temple and enjoy an excellent meal together tonight.

Day Four: Folkloric Hiking and Windsurfing
Start the day hiking amongst the flora and fauna of the UNSECO Palava Hills. Explore two ancient castle ruins before ending our hike with a descent into the folkloric Baroque village of Pavlov. We’ll then transfer to the Nové Mlýny dam for an exciting windsurfing lesson. Spend the rest of the day relaxing at the beach. On the way back to Mikulov we’ll see one of the oldest statues known to man in Vestonice. We’ll enjoy dinner tonight at the superb Eat and Art Gallery, a unique place where we’ll eat with all our senses before a fun strudel-making lesson with the chef.

Day Five: Kings, Monks and the Wachau Valley
This morning we’ll transfer to the UNESCO-protected Wachau Valley in Austria. We’ll bike from the historical town of Krems into charming medieval villages, under castle ruins, and past beautiful vineyards cascading off the terraced mountains almost into the Danube River. We’ll pass the fortress and town of Dürnstein. When we arrive at the Benedictine Monastery in Melk, we’ll take a boat back to Krems, enjoying a unique view of the Wachau Mountains. A final toast and delicious meal highlighting the delightful cuisine of Austria await us at our hotel in Krems.

Day Six: Na Shledanou
