Tour by Day
Day One: Welcome to Umbria!
Your guides will meet you at the Foligno train station and we’ll transfer directly to our noble palazzo in the medieval village of Bevagna. We’ll cycle into the countryside to visit a small family farm that produces its own cheese, meats, fruits and vegetables. After a light lunch and tour of the farm, we’ll cycle back to Bevagna for a gelato and visit part of the town’s living history museum to watch linen paper and beeswax candles being made. We’ll dine al fresco at a trattoria tucked into a tiny piazza.

Day Two: The Sagrantino Way
Start today biking through the vineyards to the town of Montefalco. Our friends Daniela and Olivio will teach us about the complexities and nuances of artisan olive oil. Continue riding to visit the Antonelli Winery, where Wendy will lead us in an Umbrian cooking class before a lunch of local favorites like bruschetta, cured meats, and homemade pasta. Our ride continues with stunning panoramas of the Spoleto Valley on the way to our villa in the medieval fortified town of Bevagna. Take a tour of the kitchen tonight and the historic amphitheater. Enjoy a gourmet dinner with a view right into the kitchen.

Day Three: The Trail of Saint Francis
Today we’ll visit Assisi, home of Saint Francis, incomparable basilicas, and beautiful Renaissance art. First, we’ll visit the Santa Maria Degli Angeli, a magnificent basilica that houses the tiny church known as the Porziuncula. Enjoy a guided tour high above the town to a hermitage where St. Francis slept and hike through oak and pine forests overlooking the Spoleto Valley. A scavenger hunt will really allow us discover this historic city. Visit the upper and lower basilicas of Assisi, with their remarkable frescoes. We’ll then shuttle back to our hotel to relax. Tonight, enjoy dinner in Assisi.

Day Four: The Serenity of Subasio and Spello
Depart the medieval gate of Assisi for a ride through the forests of Mount Subasio, with spectacular panoramas of wild Umbrian valleys. Arriving in the village of Spello, where our friend Roberto will lead us on an optional tasting of selected Umbrian wines to pair with our lunch at his enoteca, one of the most revered in Italy. From there we’ll ride through olive groves to Santa Maria Degli Angeli and visit the Porziuncula, an extraordinary papal basilica which houses the tiny chapel where the Franciscan community began. We’ll head back to Assisi. Spend the afternoon exploring Assisi or relaxing at the hotel’s award-winning spa. Your guides can offer some great dinner recommendations.

Day Five: The Road To Rubesco
Leaving Assisi, we’ll ride to Deruta to visit our friend Ubaldo Grazia in his ancient pottery workshop. His family has been creating Italy’s top ceramics for the past five hundred years. Try your hand at the potter’s wheel and enjoy lunch here in the village. After lunch we’ll cycle to Torgiano to spend our final night in the former home of a noble count, which is now part of the Lungarotti Winery. Spend the afternoon at the pool. In the evening we’ll have the opportunity to sample Lungarotti vintages in their wine cellar before celebrating our final dinner together at the hotel’s restaurant.
