Tour by Day

Day One: Welcome to Umbria!
Your guides will meet you at the Foligno train station and we’ll transfer directly to our noble palazzo in the medieval village of Bevagna. We’ll cycle into the countryside to visit a small family farm that produces its own cheese, meats, fruits and vegetables. After a light lunch and tour of the farm, we’ll cycle back to Bevagna for a gelato and visit part of the town’s living history museum to watch linen paper and beeswax candles being made. We’ll dine al fresco at a trattoria tucked into a tiny piazza.

Day Two: The Sagrantino Way
Start the day with a visit to the Antonelli Winery, where our friend Wendy will lead us in an Umbrian cooking class before a lunch of local favorites like bruschetta, cured meats, and homemade pasta. After lunch our ride continues through Montefalco with stunning panoramas of the Spoleto Valley taking the road less traveled back to our villa in the fortified medieval town of Bevagna. Take a tour of the kitchen tonight before sitting down to enjoy an unforgettable dinner in the evocative environs of an ancient Roman amphitheater.

Day Three: The Trail of Saint Francis
Today we’ll ride to Assisi, home of Saint Francis, incomparable basilicas, and beautiful Renaissance art. After lunch in town, begin a historic scavenger hunt that will take us from Santa Maria Degli Angeli, a magnificent basilica that houses the tiny church known as the Porziuncula to the hermitage where St. Francis slept, high above the town. Of course, no visit to Assisi is complete without experiencing the upper and lower basilicas of Assisi and their remarkable frescoes. Our hotel is conveniently located here in the medieval center, a former monastery now converted into a luxurious modern relais and spa. Tonight, enjoy that most sacred Italian tradition, pizza at our favorite local pizzeria.

Day Four: The Serenity of Subasio

This afternoon we’ll head to nearby Deruta to visit our friend Ubaldo Grazia in his ancient pottery workshop. His family has been creating Italy’s top ceramics for the past five hundred years. Try your hand at the potter’s wheel and watch the artisans at work. Returning to the hotel, spend the afternoon at the pool.
