Cycle through fields of sunflowers and asparagus. Climb winding roads to farmers markets in medieval villages. Stroll through charming rural towns. Explore ancient abbeys and taste the world’s best olive oils. You will never forget the breathtaking Roman ruins of Les Baux de Provence, a morning at the markets in St. Remy (pottery, traditional fabrics and soaps, and olive oils), and truffle and wine tasting in the village of Menèrbes. Culinary delights include tastings of sumptuous reds, whites, and the celebrated rosés of Provence, and unforgettable meals that include Provençal specialties prepared by some of the region’s most prominent chefs.
Tour by Day
Day One: Welcome to Provence!
Your guides will greet you at the Avignon TGV train station, and we’re off. At the hotel, we’ll start out with the essentials: bike fitting, safety talk, and map review. Then we’ll hop on our bikes and head to the Pont du Gard aqueduct—one of the Romans’ grandest structures, built in 19 B.C. Continue through beautiful orchards to the villages of Lédenon and Cabrières. After a pleasant climb, enjoy a thrilling descent through the gorges of the garrigue, or Provençal scrubland. Tonight our chef will delight you with authentic Provençal fare, and you’ll enjoy luxurious accommodations in the Gard region.

Day Two: Uzès Loop
Start your day biking through vineyards and fortress villages on the way to Uzès. Browse pottery, truffles, and olive oils in the vibrant shops and stalls. Enjoy lunch and a relaxing visit, then continue cycling—through fields of asparagus and past the Château de St. Siffret—to the villages of Flaux and Valliguieres. Along the way, stop for a tasting of full-bodied reds, elegant whites, and fruity rosés. Finally, take the time to wander on your own and experience local culture at the only café in town Dinner in Castillon du Gard with our dear friend Mario is sure to be outstanding.

Day Three: Medieval les Baux de Provence
Leave Gard and cycle through rural countryside past rustic stone churches before crossing the Rhône River. Enjoy a gourmet picnic atop the climb to the Abbey de St. Michel-de-Frigolet. Pedal through the villages of Graveson and Maillane and stop to sip a café au lait or pastis. Continue riding through miles of fruit orchards to the base of les Alpilles. Take the flat route into town or climb the seven kilometers to the medieval Les Baux de Provence, which offers some of the most spectacular views in the region. Relax this afternoon before dinner of your choice in St. Remy.

Day Four: Markey Day in St. Remy
It’s market day in St. Remy! Explore the streets filled with artisans selling fabrics, essential oils, soaps, produce, jewelry, olives, and more. A quick transfer will then land us in the Luberon. Enjoy lunch in Gordes before riding down from the Plateau de Vaucluse to where the wall of the plague once stood in Cabrieres d’Avignon. On the way home we’ll stop at the Clos de Jeannons to visit our friend André at one of the last remaining olive mills in the area and taste the fruit of his labor. Tonight we’ll be treated to many of the local specialties at our favorite Provençal restaurant.

Day Five: Essence of the Luberon
Cycle past rustic stone villages perched along ridges that overlook esteemed vineyards. We’ll meet the local potters near Roussillon and explore the famous ochre cliffs surrounding the village. We’ll ride on through the forested heart of the Petit Luberon, peering out across the valley floor with its patchwork of orchards and vineyards. An indulgent truffle and wine tasting awaits us at lunch at the House of Truffles and Wine in Menerbes. We’ll visit an olive mill on the ride back to learn about the ancient olive oil making process. Delight in a phenomenal Provençal meal tonight with views over the Luberon Valley.

Day Six: Au Revoir
After eating a relaxing breakfast, say goodbye to the Luberon however you see fit. Take a last loop ride down to the Abbaye de Senanque, sip a traditional French café, and finish your shopping in the spectacular village. Your guides will you off at the Avignon train station.
