    The Forests of Chiang Mai

Welcome to Thailand! Meet your guides at your hotel in Chiang Mai, then a transfer to a coffee shop on the outskirts of town for a safety briefing and bike fitting. We’ll set off on our first ride, encountering a serene stand of tropical forest almost right away—although Chiang Mai is one of Thailand’s essential cities, its outskirts are surprisingly verdant and peaceful. Pedal on quiet roads flanked by national parklands and take a peek into a temple, or wat, for a brief introduction to Buddhism. At lunchtime, a picnic table set right in a river lets us cool our feet while tasting typical Thai dishes. Our afternoon ride closes the loop back to Chiang Mai, ending with a transfer to tonight’s hotel. This evening, our group will dine together and toast to the exciting week ahead!

    Entering Tea Country

This morning we leave the bustle of Chiang Mai behind and transfer further into the Thai countryside. Once outside the city, begin riding north along the Ping River as the landscape shifts from lush jungle to rice paddies beneath big blue skies. We’ve entered the Mae Tang region, where a steady climb to the Araksa tea plantation awaits us. Upon reaching these terraced tea fields, we’ll wander the gardens, discover how the leaves are hand-harvested, and sample the plantation’s own aromatic Assam. After a Thai-style tea lunch, transfer to our hotel for the next two nights. The property pays tribute to the Thai Lanna style of architecture, and you’ll truly feel like this is your kingdom as you relax by the pool or indulge in a Thai massage. Tonight’s dinner takes place right on the premises at Pusanfah’s restaurant overlooking the tea fields.

Whimsical Waterfalls and Si Lanna’s Lake

Today’s route begins right from our hotel, and we’ll set out on farm roads alongside market-bound locals on their own morning bike commute. Markets are at the heart of every small town we ride through, offering piquant Thai chilies, juicy mangoes, or savory stalks of lemongrass. At the end of a rice paddy-filled valley, begin a climb to the Bua Thong Waterfalls—a pair of falls cascading down a bulbous limestone face, then dispersing in streams back into the jungle. Descend all the way to Si Lanna National Park and take a lunch break overlooking the lake, busy with boats. After lunch is another breezy downhill ride back to Pusanfah. We’ll spend the afternoon at a modernized take on the traditional Thai temple, expanding our understanding of Buddhist culture and the different styles of wats. Tonight, learn what makes Thai dishes so delicious during a cooking class, and dine on our classic creations.

    Riverside Riding

Start the day with a transfer north to the village of Tha Thon where our ride begins. Pedal on palm tree-lined roads, through remote villages and sprawling farmlands, and past coffee and tea plantations en route to our lunch destination. Afterward, push through the day’s most challenging section of steep climbs before we roll down to meet the Kok River. We’ll retire our bikes and board a traditional long-tail boat that delivers us to our hotel, Le Meridien, in Chiang Rai. Spend the afternoon settling in, then head into Chiang Rai for its famous night market—an evening filled with sampling street food and sensory delights.

    The Golden Triangle

Our destination today is the Golden Triangle, the place where the borders of Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand converge. During our ride, we’ll observe the unique agriculture of northern Thailand, including a stop to see how rubber is harvested. Have lunch in the district of Chiang Saen, an ancient Thai trading port on the Mekong with a long and fascinating history dating as far back as the 7th century. After lunch, we’ll ride to our final hotel of the trip, the glamorous Anantara Golden Triangle. The afternoon is yours to visit the spa, float in the infinity pool, take a yoga class, or roam the rice paddies. Tonight we’re treated to dinner at the hotel restaurant, overlooking the river as it meanders through the jungle.
