We have a bike tour for everyone - from the hardcore cyclist to the beach cruiser.
Are you looking to join us for a leisurely pedal along flat roads? Perhaps the Loire Valley in France or Puglia, Italy is for you. Challenge yourself on some climbs? Tuscany or Provence would be the perfect region for you. Whatever your ability, our van support is second to none. As long as you have the will and the passion, a DuVine bicycle trip will be the perfect fit for your active vacation.
Every trip is designed to appeal to a wide variety of interests and cycling levels. (Remember, biking is only a quarter of the whole DuVine experience.) We recognize that your pace may vary from one day to the next and may be different from that of your fellow traveler(s). With this in mind, we present a range of options and additional services to accommodate your needs. Had enough for the day? The DuVine support van [sag wagon] is always close at hand. Want more? Our accomplished guides are always eager and ready to add on extra miles or climbs. It’s your choice, your ride.
Easy - Cycling on relatively flat roads with a few manageable hills. Expect to gain anywhere from 0-500 feet of elevation.
Moderate - Cycling on relatively flat to gently rolling roads. Expect to gain anywhere from 500-1000 feet of elevation.
Challenging - Cycling on rolling terrain and hillier terrain. Expect to gain anywhere from 500-2500 feet of elevation. The routes are designed for avid cyclists and include plenty of chances to challenge yourself.
Advanced - Applies to our Pro-Series tours - Cycling on rolling and mountainous terrain. Daily rides feature extended saddle time with longer mileage (60 – 100 miles) as well as varying degrees of steep grade climbs. Expect to gain anywhere from 500 – 6000 feet of elevation. The routes are designed for advanced cyclists who want to test their legs on some of the most challenging roads and climbs the world has to offer. Not recommended for the recreational or amateur cyclist.
France:
Alsace Bike Tour: Challenging
DuVine's Alsace bike tour is rated Challenging. Our gorgeous rides take you through the vine-covered foothills of the Vosges mountains. Along the way we'll cycle past unspoiled villages, towering medieval castles and plenty of Grand Cru vineyards. In the evenings we'll settle down to gourmet Alsatian feasts paired with the best Rieslings and other local wines. Daily rides have some hills, and the cycling distances average 30 miles per day, with options for more riding. Be aware that Alsace can be hilly. Of course your DuVine van/guides will be there to assist you at all times.
Burgundy Bike Tour: Easy to Moderate Riding
The DuVine Burgundy bicycle trip is rated Easy to Moderate. The biking starts with relatively flat routes with some rolling rides in the vineyards of the Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits and works up to some longer more scenic climbs towards the end of the week (Hautes Cotes de Nuits/ Huates Cotes de Beaune). In Burgundy, the majority of the cycling will be on small vineyards roads passing Romanne Conti and Clos de Vouget with relatively no traffic aside from an occasional tractor and other bikers. Distances range from 16 to 35 miles with longer options each day.
Bordeaux Bike Tour: Easy to Moderate Riding
The DuVine Bordeaux bicycle trip is rated Easy to Moderate. The bike trip starts with the rolling hills of the Entre Deux Mers regions and becomes relatively flat towards the end of the week into the vineyards in St Emilion & the Medoc. There are a few hills—but the climbs are quite short. In Bordeaux, the majority of the cycling will be on small roads alongside the Dordogne river and passing Grand Cru Classé vineyards and prestigious Chateaux (Petrus, Lafite, Margaux). Distances range from 17 to 33 miles with options every day. The last day of the tour is the longest of the week but bikers can choose to start biking at later points on the route to shorten the ride.
Champagne Bike Tour: Easy to Moderate Riding
The Champagne bike tour is rated easy to moderate. The most scenic sections of the tour are the rolling hills. The best views are from the top of the Mont de Reims, and the Royal Champagne is overlooking Epernay. Expect to climb a bit, so one can enjoy the downhills! The majority of the rides are on small country roads but when approaching the bigger towns of Epernay and Reims, you can expect a little bit more traffic.
Dordogne Bike Tour: Moderate to Challenging
The DuVine Dordogne bicycle trip is rated Moderate to Challenging. The bike trip consists of flat rides along the Dordogne River and progresses into some more challenging rides through the rolling hills of the Perigod area, passing small charming villages with manor houses and chateaux scattered all over this region. The cycling brings you through very scenic terrain featuring rugged plateaus of granite and limestone, sharp outcroppings of rock, and steep, sheer cliffs. Distances range from 25 to 43 miles with longer options each day.
Loire Bike Tour: Easy Riding
The DuVine Loire bicycle trip is rated Easy. The entire bike trip has mostly flat rides along the river banks with occasional short hills up to the plateau. In the Loire Valley, the cycling will be on small country roads with light traffic when close to the chateaux such as: Chambord, Chenonceau, and Villandry. The biking brings you through vineyards, forests, gardens, along the many river banks, and to the royal Chateaux. Distances range from 19 to 32 miles with longer options each day.
Provence bike tour: Moderate to Challenging Riding
The DuVine Provence bicycle trip is rated Moderate to Challenging. Most of the cycling is manageable with only one or two hills a day allowing beautiful photo opportunities such as the 19 BC Pont de Gard, and the Les Baux fortress carved from the limestone mountain. It becomes slightly more challenging around the Les Baux and St Remy midway through the week. DuVine van/guides will be there to assist all riders at all times. The riding on our Provence tour passes the Pont de Gard, roman vestiges, cypress and olive trees, and markets. Distances range from 21 to 45 miles with longer options each day.
Provence Lavender: Challenging Riding
The DuVine Provence bicycle trip is rated Challenging. Most of the cycling is manageable with only one or two hills a day. You will cycle past rustic stone villages perched along ridges overlooking vineyards: Bonnieux, Menerbes, Rousillon and Lacoste. It becomes slightly more challenging after cycling around Fontaine de Vaucluse at the source of the Sorgue river when you continue into the hills of the Plateau de Vaucluse for clear views from afar of the Mt Ventoux, this year’s infamous Tour de France “Hors Category” climb. DuVine van/guides will be there to assist all riders at all times. The riding on our Provence Lavender tour features rolling terrain: passing lavender fields, hilltop villages, olive groves and vineyard. Distances range from 21 to 45 miles with longer options each day.
Spain:
Rioja Bike Tour: Moderate to Challenging Riding
The DuVine Adventures Rioja, Spain bicycle trip is rated Moderate to Challenging. The bike tour consists of epic Spanish countryside; rolling hills up to gorgeous vistas and climbs on quiet country roads alongside small villages and vineyards. The majority of the cycling will be passing through historic villages, famous bodegas (and stopping for an occasional tasting - of course) and pausing to speak with the locals in their fields. Due to the nature of the terrain, daily itineraries have some hills, and the cycling distances range from 22 to 45 miles per day, with options for more riding. We do have some van transfers as some distances are too long for one day. The Rioja cycling tour is spent on quiet roads, with magnificent scenery and of course your two knowledgeable DuVine guides will be there to assist you at all times.
Camino Bike Tour: Moderate to Challenging Riding
The DuVine Adventures Camino Spain bicycle trip is rated Moderate to Challenging. The bike tour consists of following the Camino trail from Leon to Santiago de Compostela. The pilgrimage ride offers all types of cycling, from hills to flat stretches on quiet country roads. Along the Camino trail, the majority of the cycling will be passing small villages and scenic vistas passing pilgrims that are also making the trek by foot and by bicycle. Daily itineraries have some hills, and the cycling distances range from 25 to 50 miles per day, with options for more riding. We do have some van transfers as some distances are too long. Cycling the Camino is a classical pilgrimage that is unforgettable and rewarding, with impressive scenery along the whole journey. Your two professional DuVine guides will be there to assist you at all times.
Mallorca Bike Tour: Easy to Slightly Moderate Riding
The DuVine Adventures Mallorca Spain bicycle trip is rated Easy to Slightly Moderate. The bike tour consists of riding along the coast, to very quiet flat inland roads through olive groves, and finishing with Lance Armstrong category climbs up the gorgeous mountains. Mallorca is heaven for all cyclists, with all types of terrain and distances. In Mallorca, the roads are very well maintained with little to no traffic. Daily itineraries have some hills with the cycling distances ranging from 25 to 100 miles per day, with options for more or less riding. Your choice: Sit on the beach, spend a few hours cycling up a mountain pass to a hidden village, or relax and enjoy some time at the spa: Mallorca has it all.
Italy:
Piedmont Bike Tour: Moderate to Challenging
The majority of the cycling is on sparsely trafficked roads past vineyards and hazel forests with spectacular scenery, luscious wines and unforgettable cuisine. Ride through famous wine-producing villages like Barolo, La Morra, and traverse rolling vine-clad hills with panoramas shrouded in a romantic haze. The Piedmont tour provides stunning vistas overlooking the Roero valley and the Langhe region. Daily distances have some hills, and the cycling distances range from 19 to 31 miles per day, with options for more riding. Be aware that Piedmont can be hilly. Of course your DuVine van/guides will be there to assist you at all times.
Puglia Bike Tour: Easy to Moderate riding
The DuVine Puglia bicycle trip is rated Easy to Moderate. In Puglia, the majority of the cycling will be on along the sea and on small olive grove roads passing famous villages such as Otranto, Santa Maria di Leuca, and Alberobello. The roads have relatively no traffic aside from an occasional car or truck because of your location in deep southern Italian countryside, some of the interior roads can be bumpy. Daily distances range from 15 to 32 miles, with spectacular scenery and options for more riding – Try the Century Ride on Day 2 to the heel of Italy!
Sicily Bike Tour: Moderate to Challenging
The Duvine Sicily Bike Trip is rated Moderate to Challenging. In this incredible week of cycling, you will pedal across the rugged landscape of the Hyblean plateau. Endless stretches of stone-wall enclosed pastures, fields and orchards are broken up by deep volcanic valleys. There are some longer gradual hills and a few shorter steep hills. In Sicily, most of the roads have almost no traffic and we will only see cars when riding into and out of Baroque towns like Ragusa and Modica. Daily rides average 20-30 miles per day with options for longer rides available each day. Everyone can enjoy Sicily on a bike and your DuVine guides and support van will be around to assist you at all times.
Tuscany Bike Tour: Moderate to Challenging Riding
The DuVine Tuscany bicycle trip is rated moderate to challenging. The epic week of cycling consists of classic Toscana scenery (cypress trees, hill top villages, olive groves) providing you with everything from rolling terrain around Pienza, then more hilly riding in the countryside of Chianti. In Tuscany, the majority of the cycling will be on small roads with occasional light traffic while riding around the famous villages of Montepulciano and Montalcino. Daily rides have hills (we avoid steep climbs), and the cycling distances range from 19 to 31 miles per day, with options for more riding and more hills. Everyone can do Tuscany, but it is hilly, and of course your DuVine support vehicle and guides will be around to assist you at all times.
Umbria Bike Tour: Moderate Riding
The DuVine Umbria bicycle trip is rated moderate. This week of cycling predominantly sticks to the Tiber River Valley where the riding is flat with a few small hills. A few times during the week we will experience larger hills while pedaling to hill towns such as Montefalco and Assisi. Umbria is a quiet region, and one of the least populous in Italy. Therefore, there is very little traffic, especially on the country roads where we prefer to cycle. Our days range from 15 to 30 miles of riding with options for challenging extra rides in the surrounding hills. Everyone can do this bike trip in Umbria and your DuVine support vehicle and guide will be with you at all times for your convenience.
Czech Republic & Austria:
Czech Republic and Austria Bike Tour: Easy to Moderate Riding
The DuVine Adventures Prague to Vienna bicycle trip is rated Easy to Moderate. This cycling vacation consists of old world scenery with a variety of landscapes from forests to moderate hills in the Czech Republic and flatter stretches in Austria. The itinerary provides you with everything from virtually flat and hassle-free to gently rolling riding in the Czech Republic with the occasional unpaved dirt roads, then flat and slightly rolling riding in Austria through the vineyards. The majority of the cycling will be on small vineyard roads with occasional light traffic, passing by the iron-curtain and romantic villages. Daily cycling distances range from 21 to 37 miles per day, with options for more riding.
Switzerland:
Switzerland Bike Tour: Moderate Riding
The DuVine Adventures Switzerland bicycle trip is rated Moderate. The bike tour consists of riding along glaciers and through medieval villages cycling up through lush vineyards and then breeze down through enchanting villages. In Switzerland, the cycling will be mostly on paved roads with glorious downhill rides off the beaten track through rolling pastures. We will ride from Villars to les Diablerets deriving from the French ‘le Diable’, the devil. But no one need harbour any fears in Les Diablerets, as you’ll be pleased when you reach the top to admire the views the glacier at 3000 meters! Daily distances of cycling range from 17 to 31 miles per day, with options for more riding. Switzerland riding offers lots of great downhill riding, stunning scenery and of course your local and professional DuVine guides will be there to assist you at all times.
Ireland:
Ireland Bike Tour: Moderate Riding
The DuVine Adventures bicycle trip in Ireland is rated Moderate. The bike tour consists of epic Irish countryside; beautiful rolling hills along small country roads studded with freely roaming sheep, scenic roads that pass Ireland’s only fjord, and along the rugged coastline and sandy Atlantic beaches, and the Twelve Bens in the Lough Inagh Valley - considered the most scenic area of Ireland. Daily itineraries have some hills, and the cycling distances range from 22 to 45 miles per day, with options for more riding. The Ireland cycling tour is spent on quiet roads, with amazing scenery and of course your two knowledgeable DuVine guides will be there to assist you at all times.
North America:
Napa Sonoma Bike Tour: Moderate Riding
The DuVine Adventures Napa & Sonoma bicycle trip is rated Moderate. The bike tour consists of coastal riding along the pacific coastline of Bodega Bay, with some rolling hills up and flat stretches on quiet country roads through vineyards and beautiful rural countryside. In Sonoma, the majority of the cycling will be on quiet country roads passing by well known Zinfandel vineyards such as Ferrari-Carano. In Napa you’ll be passing towns such as Calistoga, St Helena and well known wineries such as Mondavi’s Opus One and Sterling Vineyards. Daily cycling distances range from 18 to 38 miles per day, with options for more riding. Napa & Sonoma offer stunning scenery and of course your local DuVine guides will be there to assist you at all times.
Okanagan Bike Tour: Moderate Riding
The DuVine Adventures Okanagan bicycle trip is rated Moderate. The bike tour consists of riding alongside the lake and vineyards with some rolling hills and mostly flat stretches on quiet country roads. In the Okanagan, the majority of the cycling will be on tranquil vineyard roads passing well known wineries such as Quail’s Gate, Mission Hill as well as riding along the Kettle Valley Railway and the 90km Okanagan Lake. Daily distances of cycling range from 18 to 32 miles per day, with options for more riding. The Okanagan riding offer sunny skies, breathtaking scenery and of course your local and professional DuVine guides will be there to assist you at all times.
Zion & Bryce Bike Tour: Easy to Moderate Riding (with options to make Challenging)
The DuVine Adventures Zion & Bryce bicycle trip is rated Easy to Moderate. You’ll alternate days biking and hiking past panoramic vistas of soaring multi-hued rock formations. The biking includes relatively flat or downhill routes, but given the topography of the region, there are many options to make the riding challenging by adding climbing for those who want it. The majority of the cycling and hiking will be through the awe-inspiring parks including Cedar Breaks National Monument, Zion, Bryce and Grand Canyon National Parks. Daily cycling distances range from 16 to 43 miles with longer options each day. The hikes vary from 3 to 8 miles per day, including some with the option for up to 2,000 feet elevation gain. Cape Cod Bike Tour: Easy to Moderate Riding
The DuVine Adventures Cape Cod bicycle trip is rated Easy to Moderate. The bike tour consists of coastal riding along the Atlantic coastline of Cape Cod and Nantucket, with some rolling hills and flat stretches through the towns of Chatham, Orleans and Provincetown. The majority of the cycling will be on the on the car-free Cape Cod Rail Trail passing cranberry bogs, lush marshlands, lighthouses and rolling sand dunes. You will take a ferry to explore the island of Nantucket with the option to ride to Siasconset at the easternmost part of the island. Daily cycling distances range from 20 to 35 miles per day, with options for more riding. Cape Cod and Nantucket offer the classic New England charm and of course your local DuVine guides will be there to assist you at all times.
South America:
Argentina Bike Tour: Easy to Slightly Moderate Riding
The DuVine Adventures Mendoza bicycle trip is rated Easy to Slightly Moderate. The bike tour consists of riding through vineyards and on trails with some rolling hills and mostly flat stretches on quiet roads and small villages. In Mendoza, the cycling will be on both paved and dirt vineyard roads passing well known wineries such as Luján de Cuyo, Uco's Valley Cuyo Vineyards, and Catena Zapata as well as through the gorgeous Park General San Martín de los Andes and on Las Carreras trail. Day 3 will also include a 5.5 km walk to the one and only Jerome brewery. Daily distances of cycling range from 17 to 31 miles per day, with options for more riding. We do have some van transfers as some distances are too long for one day. Mendoza riding offers sunny skies, warm temperatures, breathtaking scenery and of course your local and professional DuVine guides will be there to assist you at all times.
South Africa:
South Africa Bike Tour: Moderate Riding
The DuVine South Africa bicycle trip is rated Moderate. The biking starts with relatively flat routes with some rolling rides in the vineyards of Stellenbosch and the Jonkershoek Valley and includes some longer, more scenic climbs and descents up the Hellenshootge Pass and Devon Hill Road. The trip also includes some hiking up the mountain slope, Lion's Head, and rolling terrain along the coastal roads of the Atlantic and around the Cape of Good Hope.
Croatia
Croatia Bike Tour: Moderate to Challenging Riding
The DuVine Croatia bicycle trip is rated Moderate to Challenging. This epic week of cycling consists of rolling roads on the island of Hvar passing lavender fields, olive groves and vineyards as well as tackling some challenging yet beautiful climbs. The terrain on this trip provides you with everything from the spectacular vistas and rolling terrain along the Dalmatian coast to more hilly riding inland on the islands of Hvar and Korcula. In Croatia, the majority of the cycling will be on back roads with occasional light traffic. Daily rides have hills (we avoid steep climbs), and the cycling distances range from 19 to 31 miles per day, with options for longer rides and/or more hills. Everyone can do Croatia, but it is hilly, and of course your DuVine support vehicle and guides will be around to assist you at all times.
Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands
Ecuador & Galapagos Multisport Tour: Moderate
The Duvine Adventures Ecuador and Galapagos multisport trip is rated moderate. The biking portion consists of some rolling hills in the Andean highlands with gorgeous vistas on quiet roads through quaint villages and farmland. We will also mountain bike through the coffee plantations and along the beautiful coast of San Cristobal Island in the Galapagos, giving us up close access to all kinds of wildlife. The hiking portion of the trip consists of coastal walks as well as more strenuous climbing on dirt trails up to the rim of the Sierra Negra volcano. While in the islands we will also do some sea kayaking in the bays and inlets of San Cristobal and snorkeling is another option. Daily itineraries are intended to allow you to explore these areas at your own pace, building a good appetite without ever being exhausting. There are some plane, van and boat transfers that will allow you to see the distant corners of Ecuador. Of course, your two knowledgeable DuVine guides will be there to assist you at all times.
Jordan
Jordan Active Adventure: Moderate to Challenging
Your Jordan active adventure is rated moderate to challenging. The biking portion consists of both on and off road riding through Al Shobak village, along the Eastern Plateau, in the Wadi Rum desert, passing through Bedouin communities and arriving at the Dead Sea. Along the way we will encounter a 10 km downhill leading to a spectacular view of the white rock domes of Beida, a ride through the mudflats of Disa - a vast flat field with hard ground in the middle of the desert, an off-road track winding through the narrow roads of Bedouin villages, and a relatively flat paved road to the Dead Sea. The hiking portion entails a back trail hike on the way to Petra where we will descend 850 stairs to the basin, a mountain trek toward the famous rock bridge which involves some relatively easy scrambling across open rocks slabs to a more difficult short steep wall (safeguarded by a climbing rope) and a walk across the rock bridge providing awe-inspiring views across the desert. Your itinerary also includes water sport opportunities in the Red Sea, where you can choose to snorkel, swim or scuba dive. There will be some van transfers as well as several jeep rides and a chance to kick off your shoes, climb up a giant sand dune and run barefoot down. As always your knowledgeable DuVine guides will be there to assist you at all times.
Israel
Israel Bike Tour: Challenging
The DuVine Adventures Israel bike trip is rated Challenging. The tour starts with some fairly flat roads on a scenic tour of Tel Aviv and continues along the coast to the ancient port of Jaffa. The cycling starts to become more challenging as you head into the Carmel Forest where you will encounter some longer climbs ranging from 5K to 15km of consistent climbing. The roads are mostly paved, however, after your descent into Binyamina, you will be taking back roads with a short section on dirt as you pass through the vineyards and farms in this area known as the 'Tuscany of Israel'. You will encounter some other flat stretches as you head toward Caesarea, cycling into the ancient Roman city located at one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean. As you head into the Golan, you will again encounter some more challenging rolling hills as you ride along the border, overlooking some extinguished volcanoes. The majority of cycling will be on back roads with relatively no traffic - especially on our Saturday ride through the empty streets of Jerusalem. Daily cycling distances range between 20km - 60km per day. Everyone can do Israel, but there will be some challenging climbs- but remember that our DuVine support vehicle and guides will be around to assist you at all times.
