Born in Wales, Simon got hooked on cycling in the 1980s, with BMX being his first love. Later, he moved on to mountain biking, but after watching his first live Tour stage on Alpe’d’huez, road cycling became his true passion.
Simon is a British Cycling leadership tutor and performance coach, working with local cycling clubs helping to train and mentor young riders. A dedicated endurance racer, he has completed in several long-distance bikepacking events, including the French and Italy divide races and, more recently, the Ibérica Traversa in Spain.
Simon also holds a degree in forest management and has worked in conservation both the UK and overseas. During the off season, he focuses on environmental education, leading outdoor programs and lecturing in Wildlife and Conservation Management at the University of the Highlands and Islands.
