The Giro d’Italia – 3266km and only one maglia rosa. Go behind the scenes to witness riders tackle the toughest stages of Italy’s greatest cycling race. Warm up your own legs on picturesque rides around the shores of Lake Garda and through the vine-covered hills of the Valpolicella before taking on the Dolomite Mountains. Challenge yourself to complete a full stage over the famous Mortirolo pass, and then see how the pro peloton does on the very same route the next day. Recover with delicious Italian meals and comfortable bed while our expert guides handle all the details to ensure an unforgettable experience.


Tour by Day

Day One: Welcome to Bella Italia
After meeting at the Verona train station, our adventure will begin with a transfer into mountains. Enjoy an energizing picnic lunch, then a bike fitting and our first ride along the ridgeline. Admire the panoramic views before descending down small back country road in the vine-covered valley as we head towards Riva Del Garda. Situated right in the center of town, and steps from the shores of Lake Garda, is our hotel for the next three nights, Hotel Borgo Antico.  Savor a typical Italian meal for dinner tonight we toast to start to an incredible week.

Day Two: Exploring Monte Bondone
Today we’ll receive a great introduction to the Dolomites as cycle above the Riva Del Garda to Monte Bondone. Made famous after Charly Gaul’s 1956 frozen ascent to a Giro lead, this climb is now the setting of a Gran fondo held every year in his honor. Ride over the mountain range passing all 3 of its peaks to reach a total of 10,000ft / 3,048m climbing. Descend back to Riva Del Garda to enjoy a well-earned afternoon of relaxation. Witness the building buzz of Italian cycling fever as we hit the town tonight for dinner.

Day Three: Stage 15 – Madonna di Campiglio finish
The Giro has arrived! Today’s Stage 15 mountain top finish in Madonna di Campiglio will end of the first 2 weeks of racing and is expected to be epic. The peloton will cycle 3 major mountain passes, climb more than 13123ft / 4000m, and travel 102.5 miles / 165km. We’ll take on the last 24.8 miles / 40km of the course before joining thousands of spectators as they cheer on the riders, especially local favorite, Nibali. Enjoy this once in a lifetime chance to be a part of the action and see who comes away with the pink jersey after this brutal stage. Tonight we’ll dine at our favorite local restaurant as we get ready for tomorrow’s stage challenge.

Day Four: Giro d’Italia Full Stage Challenge
Our King stage is here. The challenge: ride the entirety of the 2015 Giro d’Italia stage 16, Pinzolo – Aprica. Battle three major climbs during this day of riding, the most grueling of which will be the last 12.4 miles / 20km crossing the Mortirolo. Lunch will be enjoyed pro-style, with a food bag prepped with everything needed to sustain you throughout the day. A spectacular descent will bring you all the way to Aprica where you can savor the accomplishment of completing your First Grand Tour Stage. Tonight is your free night to explore our home for the night, Bormio, or recover at the nearby hot water springs.

Day Five: Stage 16 – The Pros Tackle the Route to Aprica
After yesterday’s challenge, an easy day lies in front of us today. Start with a cappuccino and decadent breakfast at our Agriturismo, which will include fresh milk, homemade breads, and local cheeses and jams. Cycling down the valley towards the Mortirolo, we’ll ride up the backside with our fellow passionate spectators as we wait for the riders to arrive. Watch the racers with new found respect as they climb exact route we completed yesterday at incredible speeds. Toast an unforgettable tour on our final night as we have saved best for last.

Day Six: Arrivederci Italia
Enjoy an optional early morning pedal up the Stelvio or enjoy a relaxing morning sleeping in. Your guides will transfer you to Tirano train station and bid you farewell until your next bike tour.
