Umbria Bike Tour

Welcome to the mystical green heart of Italy, where time travel has never been so easy—on our bike tour you will ride through vineyards, olive groves and medieval hill towns that time forgot and tourism has hardly touched. Share an espresso with local villagers in rustic piazzas where smiles are the local currency. A cooking class allows you to work alongside great chefs as you prepare your mid-day meal with a glass of Sagrantino or Orvieto in hand, of course. Watch master craftsmen at work at the potter’s wheel as they create the world famous Deruta ceramics. In the evening, after a gourmet meal and passeggiata in the village square, share a glass of Rubesco Riserva with your friends under a grape pergola in the gardens of our villas. There is no better way to end the day than in these luxurious structures, built by medieval nobles who understood how to nourish the heart, mind and spirit.
Our Umbria cycling vacation begins with a ride along a tree-lined bike path to the world-renowned winery of Arnaldo Caprai, where we’ll sample his wines while eating local pecorino cheeses and Norcia-produced cured meats on the winery’s veranda overlooking rolling vineyards of Grechetto and Sagrantino grapes. These intimate experiences will continue throughout the week as we cycle through the legendary towns and untouched villages of Spello, Montefalco, Deruta, Torgiano and Bevagna. One highlight of our Umbria bike tour will be a ride to Assisi, where we’ll have the opportunity to view the tremendous art and architecture created in homage to Francis, the town’s most famous native son, including works by some of the greatest artists of the Early Renaissance, like Giotto, Cimabue and Simone Martini. In the evening, the night is yours to stroll through the quiet streets of perhaps the best restored medieval town in Europe. The tour culminates in a ride to the magnificent town of Orvieto, summer home of popes, whose Duomo is unsurpassed in its façade of polychrome tiles and bas-relief panels of key scenes from the Old and New Testament.
