  • Day 1

    Exploring Cusco

    Welcome to Peru! Your guide will meet you at the airport and sweep you off to the stunning city of Cusco where we’ll toast your arrival and enjoy a light lunch in the main square. Discover Peruvian flavors while gazing out at some of the best views of the city. Then it’s off to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, once the heartland of the Inca Empire, to our first hotel perched high in the Andes. Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the beautiful gardens or choose to relax and acclimate to the recent altitude change. Later we’ll meet to celebrate our adventure ahead and begin to unravel the hidden mysteries of this spectacular region.

  • Day 2

    El Parador de Moray: Bike to Pachar

    This morning we visit the community of Misminay for a unique perspective on local life. From here, hike to Moray for a delicious lunch stop, then continue by bike to the Moray terraces where agricultural experimentation flourished during the time of the Incas. In Pachar, pedal past views of the snow-capped Veronica mountain, then end the day with a special meal at our friend Ani’s beautiful home on the Urubamba River. After dinner, take part in a despacho ceremony in which an offering is made to Mother Earth and the Mountain Spirits.

  • Day 3

    Chinchero: Huaypo + Salt Mines

    Today we transfer to Chinchero, an extraordinary community where highly skilled weavers demonstrate their ancient techniques for creating traditional Andean textiles. Pedal through the high Andean plains of Cusco until we reach Huaypo, a glassy lagoon high in the mountaintops and the perfect setting for a picnic lunch. Afterwards, we’ll continue to the colorful ponds in Maras where salt has been collected since before the Inca Empire. Tonight, enjoy dinner at your hotel.

  • Day 4

    Paths to Urubamba Market

    Today we visit the workshop of one of Peru’s most famous ceramists: Pablo Seminario. His work is inspired by styles utilized by Peru’s ancient cultures. Shortly after we’ll explore the local market of Urubamba where you’ll experience a mix of colors, flavors, and culture. From there we continue to Ollantaytambo, known as the only living Inca town. The local people still dress in traditional clothing and live in the old stone houses of their ancestors. After lunch, we board the train that will take us to our next hotel nestled in the cloud forest below the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu.

  • Day 5

    Huayna Picchu + Machu Picchu

    This morning start the day by exploring the beautiful grounds surrounding the hotel. After a hearty breakfast we’ll set off for our visit of the Machu Picchu citadel. Upon our arrival we will have a complete guided tour of the site and then free time to explore by ourselves. Optionally, you can climb to the top of Huayna Picchu, from which you can see an expansive view of the citadel. Take a seat and absorb this breathtaking view of the surrounding mountain peaks and the great canyon of Urubamba. In the afternoon, we take a bus to the town of Aguas Calientes to board the train that will take us back to Cusco.

  • Day 6


    Sleep in or take a final tour of Cusco and visit the most important ruin in the city, Sacsayhuaman, an Inca fortress and ceremonial center built with impressive stone blocks. From here we begin a short and easy walk following an old, but well-preserved Inca Trail. Gradually we descend from the rural corners of the city to the remarkable urban center, passing by the Temple of the Moon and finally the main square. Later in the afternoon we will transfer you to the Cusco Airport where you will head on to your next destination.

The high altitudes of Machu Picchu and Cusco may cause altitude sickness. Acclimatization can help, but we also recommend consulting your physician before traveling to Peru.

Hiking shoes are recommended for the hike on this tour. We suggest hiking boots or trail shoes with good traction. You may also find moisture-wicking clothing or a daypack useful, but not required.
