Tour by Day

Day One: Welcome to Sicily!
Your guides will meet you in Catania, and then we’re off to explore the Sicilian countryside. First, we’ll cover the basics: bike fitting, safety talk, and map review. Start with a ride along the scenic ridgeline down to the coastal plain below. The route offers stunning views of the sea and provides for an evocative approach into the Baroque streets of historic Noto. Stop in the main square for the best local granita before continuing your ride past the ruins of Noto Antica back to the hotel. Tonight, enjoy your first Sicilian dinner cooked by Seamus.

Meals: Light Lunch / Dinner
Destinations: Catania, Noto, Noto Antica
Accomplished: 24 miles / 38 km, elevation gain: 549 meters
Accommodations: Borgo Alveria

Day Two: Ride to the Sea
Begin the day cycling past the stone walls and carob trees of the Iblean plateau. A winding descent finds us surrounded by groves of orange and lemon trees as we pass through the hottest wine-growing region in Italy. Stop for a tasting of Nero d’Avolas at a hidden local winery. Continue on to Marzamemi, a postcard-perfect fishing village where we’ll stop for lunch. Enjoy fresh seafood pasta at the local trattoria as you bask in the Sicilian sun. From here, choose to transfer back to the hotel or opt to bike back through Noto for an extra challenge.

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
Destinations: Noto, Marzamemi
Accomplished: 29 miles / 47 km, elevation gain: 245 meters (Longer option: 52 miles / 83 km)
Accommodations: Borgo Alveria

Day Three: Journey Into the Iblei
Today we ride deep into the Iblei Mountains, a high plateau rising from the coastal plains. The rugged landscape is marked by deep canyons with a wealth of prehistoric sites. Stop for a coffee in one of these lost villages before arriving at the culinary highlight of the day, a hidden restaurant owned by two brothers that is truly a shrine to local cooking. After lunch, opt to shuttle or complete the longer ride to our next hotel, a five-star castle deep in the Sicilian countryside.

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch
Destinations: Ferla, Buccheri, Vizzini
Accomplished: 33 miles / 55 km, elevation gain: 844 meters (Longer option: 48 miles / 78 km)

Day Four: Gulfi Winery Visit
This morning, we will visit a local ricotta cheese producer, as rustic and as fresh as it gets. Then ride to the sleepy village of Licodia Eubea, toward Lake Dirillo, passing through orchards of fruit trees, olive groves and vineyards. We’ll stop at the Gulfi winery for a tasting and wine-paired lunch. After lunch, opt to continue riding a loop back to the hotel or transfer back in the van. If cycling, you’ll be treated to a picturesque ride through the vineyards and stunning fields of wheat. Tonight we’ll have the chance to get our hands on some pasta as we cook a celebratory dinner with Seamus.

Start the day with a ride through the hilltown of Vizzini and out into the green valley below. Wind through a deep canyon and up to the heights of Monterosso for a visit to the pastry shop in the main piazza, then enjoy a long, gradual downhill that follows the Irminio Valley into the fairytale landscape of Ragusa. Perhaps no view on the island can compare with the sight of this urban waterfall of Baroque palaces and churches clinging to the steep hillside. Enjoy lunch in the old town before shuttling or biking the rest of the way to our final hotel of the trip.
