The conditions of the Galápagos Islands require an off-road bicycle known as a fat bike. Fat bikes have oversized tires and are specially designed for low ground pressure, which makes riding on soft, unstable terrain (such as sand, bogs, and mud) more comfortable. Though fat bikes weigh more than a classic mountain bike, they offer superior stability and traction.
