Introduction to Tel Aviv and Jaffa

Our first order of business is a bike fitting and safety talk, followed by our inaugural ride: an easy warm-up through the city of Tel Aviv. We’ll cruise through Jaffa Port in the Old City and take a coffee break at the buzzing market, then spin past the sleek new Tel Aviv Velodrome. Continue pedaling beside the Mediterranean to a beer tasting and light lunch of Israeli meze, including excellent traditional hummus. Finish cycling the loop back to our hotel, then reconvene for dinner at one of our favorite Tel Aviv restaurants. Tonight, we raise a glass to the maglia rosa—may the best man win!

Ride Like a Pro, Dine Like a Pro

This morning’s ride begins at the UNESCO World Heritage Beit Guvrin-Maresha National Park and sets out on the same course followed by pro cyclists in the Israeli National Championship. In our midst are rolling hills and the vineyards of the Elah Valley, where the battle between David and Goliath is said to have transpired. Today’s main event is the Nes Harim climb, a segment at 7% grade that will truly test your legs. This evening, we’ll transfer into Jerusalem for a very special dinner with the Israeli Cycling Academy team.

  • Day 4

    Climbs on Climbs

Rise and shine—yesterday was but a dress rehearsal for the climbs on the docket today. From Jerusalem’s Ein Karem neighborhood, we’ll descend into the Ghost Valley, streaking past pine trees and ancient villages built from white stone. From here on out, it’s time to dig deep: first we crank our way up the Nahal Sorek basin, and after a coffee break in the Judean Hills we’ll conquer the mighty Tzuba. The views will keep you spinning towards the natural area of Sataf, or go for the triumphant finish all the way back to Ein Karem. We’ll reward ourselves with lunch at the city’s hip Machane Yehuda Market. This afternoon, we get our hands on our VIP passes during a meet-and-greet with the Giro team, and our seats are reserved at tonight’s exclusive Giro d’Italia Gala Dinner.

Up Close and Personal with the Giro

Today we follow the Giro riders quite literally with an exclusive opportunity to ride the race’s time trial course. Test the corners and see how fast you can go or imagine yourself as part of the peloton. This afternoon, we’ll give our bikes a break in favor of a guided tour of Jerusalem’s Old City. Afterwards, we’re whisked into the VIP hospitality suite and given a behind-the-scenes look at the Giro’s inner workings.

  • Day 6

VIP Place on the Finish Line

After a transfer to the town of Caesarea, we’ll join a gran fondo ride on the official Giro route just hours before the pros are set loose. The final 43 miles of Stage 2 swing along the Mediterranean coast and pass the cities of Hadera, Netanya, and Hertzelia en route to Tel Aviv. It all wraps up with a victory loop through the city, and when the peloton passes later today you can proudly say you’ve been there and done that. Wind down with a beer on the beach or freshen up before we take our VIP seats right on the finish line—it’s déjà vu! This evening, mingle with the Giro riders and meet the team’s mechanic who might share a pro tip or two. It’s a chance to see career cyclists as few people do, and it will keep us chattering with excitement over dinner.

  • Day 7

    Stage 3

We’ve saved the best for last with today’s ride from Mitzpe Ramon to Eilat, one of the most beautiful routes in the Holy Land. Fuel up with brunch at the Beresheet Hotel, then ride the Giro’s Stage 3, which begins down the Makhtesh Ramon crater—a unique landform found only in Israel’s Negev desert. We’ll cruise within its smooth, rocky walls for some 25 miles, then call ourselves the KOM with a short but challenging climb. From there, it’s a sprint on auto-pilot to the shore of the Red Sea in Eilat. Another après-vélo beer is a sure bet before we find our place on the finish and watch the pros sprint to the end of the stage. Our final dinner together is a celebration of our own accomplishments and the amazing firsthand experiences we shared with the pros.
