A welcome toast to the week will lead into many culinary treats at the hotel’s own restaurant for a fresh and delicious lunch. From the hotel you will walk to the historical center to visit the Medina and souks where your local guide will help you navigate the labyrinth of these narrow streets with cultural and historical commentary all along the way. Here you’ll get a complete bike fitting and safety talk so that you can ready to ride comfortably in this scenic country. Today’s ride takes you on rolling hills towards the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Watch for donkey and sheep traffic jams; that is as busy as it gets. We’ll cross the Nfiss river and up through some striking gorges before arriving to the village of Marigha for a well earned lunch. Keep riding through the valley or get a lift to the next hotel, Richard Branson’s Kasbah Tamadot outside of the town of Asni. Today you will be amazed and entranced by all that we encounter, starting with the succulent breakfast at the hotel. Hop on your bikes and head towards the deep countryside, leaving modern life behind you. Our ride will take us past many sleepy Berber villages, the only signs of civilization during the whole ride. Admire the views as you make your way into the hills while passing shepherds, donkeys, villagers and school children. Once we’ve reached the highest point of the ride we’ll stop for a shaded Berber-style lunch with cool drinks and fresh dishes prepared onsite. Enjoy the long downhill all the way to the town of Tahanaout. From here you can continue riding or hitch a ride back to the hotel for some much deserved down time. This beautiful mountain range was the backdrop for many films, most notably, the film Kundun, which takes place in the Himalayas! You are in for a treat with this approximately 4-hour hike following the meandering river to the base of the Toubkal mountain. We will enjoy a picnic lunch prepared for us along the way before we make our way back to town. Here you can test your haggling skills to purchase many beautiful hand crafted items like carpets, leather goods, and pottery. Depending on the time of year, you’ll see men, women and children working their field with nothing more than a sickle, loading their donkeys with the harvest. From this height you can see beautiful vistas, with the Atlas Mountains at your back and the Agafay Desert ahead as your final destination. Descend to the Lake Lalla Takerkoust for lunch and decide if you want to keep riding or continue by van to the oasis in the middle of the desert, the setting for our final night together. Prior to this festive candlelight dinner under the stars, we give a final toast to the unforgettable week with our newfound friends.
