    Welcome to Catalonia

Meet your DuVine guides for a transfer to the city center of Figueres, where we’ll join a local guide for a tour of the surreal Salvador Dalí museum. We’ll stroll to our favorite tapas bar in Figueres for a light lunch of pintxos (gourmet tapas like gazpacho and spicy patatas bravas), then shuttle to our hotel in the wine village of Peralada. After a bike fitting and safety briefing, begin with a warm-up ride through wine villages, past vineyards, and over gently undulating country roads. Return to the hotel for some free time, or explore the village of Peralada. This evening, we toast to our first day with a glass of local Cava, followed by a gourmet meal at the hotel restaurant.

    Destinations: Figueras, Garriguella, Pau, Peralada

  • Day 2

    The Plains of Catalonia

Today we ride south over the rolling plains from the Alt Empordà to the Baix Empordà, east of Girona. Pedal through country villages and farming landscapes to Ullastret, the bastion town noted for its 6th-century Iberian settlement. In the pretty village of Palau-Sator, Maria and her family prepare lunch for us in the garden of her delightful restaurant; our meal pays homage to traditional Catalan cuisine with an added twist of her Argentine heritage. Then it’s time for a short, easy spin to Mas de Torrent—take a dip in the pool or take advantage of the fabulous spa, then reconvene for dinner at the hotel’s homey restaurant.

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
Destinations: Camallera, Verges, Ullastret, Palau-Sator, Torrent
Accomplished: 41 miles / 66 km, elevation gain: 580 meters

  • Day 3

    Braving the Costa Brava

Today’s ride showcases the wild Costa Brava coastline. We’ll pedal south through Palafrugell, once an important center of the wine cork industry, and out towards the pretty seaside cove of Tamariu for some beachside refreshments. Continue along quiet back roads and chic holiday homes to the medieval town of Begur, then seize the opportunity to check out some colorful boutiques. Our ride concludes with magnificent coastal vistas at the beachside village of Pals Playa. The day’s cycling achievements are rewarded with a paella lunch and picturesque terrace views—we may even take a celebratory dip in the cool coastal waters. This evening, meet our friends Pepi and Angel for an organic dinner and wine tasting at their unique winery.
