    The Pearl of the Dolomites

Meet your guides at the Venice Mestre train station for a transfer to a crystal-clear mountain lake at the gateway to the Dolomites. After a leisurely lakeside picnic, get fitted to the bikes and set off into the Cadore Valley, surrounded by towering limestone peaks. Our route follows a historic railway line converted into a dedicated bike path, ensuring traffic-free riding on our way to Cortina d’Ampezzo—the queen of Italian mountain resorts and host of the 2026 Winter Olympics. Our first luxury hotel awaits in the heart of town. Settle into your room or take in the views from the rooftop spa. Tonight, we’ll gather for a special farmhouse dinner where the focus is on locally sourced and foraged ingredients.

In the Footsteps of the Great War

From 1915 to 1918, the peaks above Cortina became the center of a desperate battle between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian armies. Our hike around the five stone pillars of the Cinque Torri leads us to the remaining tunnels, bunkers, and traces of this incredible history. The combination of natural beauty and historical interest makes for a fascinating excursion. At the top of the mountain, stop for lunch at a refuge well-known for its gourmet fare before continuing the loop back down to the road. This afternoon, relax at the spa or stroll through Cortina’s charming historic center. Tonight you’re free to dine on your own in town—your guides are happy to recommend their favorite restaurants.

  • Day 3

    Dobbiaco and Brunico

We’re back on the bikes this morning! Start the day by riding over the pass, crossing the linguistic border into German-speaking territory. Pedal along the valley floor and explore the typical Tyrolean towns of Villabassa and Dobbiaco, known for its Baroque church. Along the way we’ll stop to visit a local farm family for a homemade lunch featuring their cheeses and other products produced onsite. From here, hop in the van for a transfer or continue cycling through the historic town of Brunico to our next hotel, an 11th-century castle set high above the Puster Valley. Explore the property, with its frescoed walls, lush gardens, and ancient chapels—the oldest which dates to the year 1030—or enjoy the pool and spa. This evening we’ll regather for dinner, soaking up the history and atmosphere of this special place.

Abbey of Novacella and Val Pusteria

This strategic area contains some of the main passes between Germany and Italy, and local bishops used this influence to become important political players in the Middle Ages. Our destination is the historic Novacella Abbey. Admire the 15th-century fortress and explore the grounds where monks have been making wine since 1142. Stop for a wine-paired lunch with our friends then continue cycling to Bressanone—a vibrant city with an incredible medieval core. Opt to transfer by van or challenge yourself with an extra ride up to our alpine design hotel. This afternoon, enjoy some well-earned downtime in the hotel’s sublime spa and outdoor pools. We may even glimpse curious resident marmots peering up from their burrows beneath blankets of wildflowers. Enjoy panoramic views of the Odle Group, some of the most iconic peaks in the Dolomites, then savor lunch at a welcoming mountain refuge. Afterward, opt for a longer or shorter walk back to the cable car that brings us down to the hotel. Should you choose to spend time in Venice before your tour, you can easily reach Venice Marco Polo Airport—where you’ll meet your guides—by private water taxi or public water bus.

Note that many hotels in the Dolomites rely on the cool mountain air, especially at higher altitudes, and may not offer air conditioning.

For the hikes on this tour, we strongly recommend bringing hiking boots or trail shoes with good traction (not running shoes or sneakers). Moisture-wicking clothing or daypacks are also recommended, but not required.
