Tour by Day

Day One: Welcome to Umbria!
Your guides will meet you at the Foligno train station, and then we’re off to the ancient Roman town of Bevagna. At the hotel we’ll begin our Umbria bike tour with the essentials: bike fitting, safety talk, and map review. Then we’ll jump on our bikes and ride through the countryside to the farmhouse of our friends, Fatima and Feliciano. You’ll feel like long-lost family as they host a Sunday lunch featuring their homemade cheeses, and other products grown on the property. From here we’ll ride along a beautiful bike path and small country lanes, looping our way through this fertile valley. Challenge yourself with an extra ride into the hills above town or return to the hotel to relax and explore Bevagna’s cobbled streets. This evening, we’ll regroup to visit our friend and chef Filippo for dinner at his trattoria, hidden in a vine-covered courtyard.

Start your day with a ride through fields and farms as we pedal to the gorgeous Antonelli Winery. Here, our host Wendy will teach us how to prepare typical Umbrian dishes during an unforgettable cooking class and lunch including wine pairings from the vineyard with each course. Save room for a glass of Sagrantino passito with her homemade dessert. After lunch, cycle through the olive groves to Montefalco. Take some extra time to explore this perfect medieval hilltown, or opt for an extra ride towards Spoleto and along the quiet bike paths of the valley. Tonight, we’ll dine in the exquisite Da Assu, a great local restaurant on Bevagna’s main square.

Along the ride, we’ll visit the winery of our friends Maria Palma and Pietro for a small-scale, homegrown, and totally organic viticultural experience. Then it’s on to Assisi and our luxurious 5-star spa hotel, located just within the medieval walls. In Assisi opt to visit important sites like St. Francis’ hermitage, or relax in the peace of the spa. From here, cycle along the spectacular Via degli Ulivi, or “Olive Way”, with stunning views across the valley. After lunch we will have a short ride to our accommodations in the former home of a noble count, now a five-star hotel and part of the Lungarotti Winery estate.
