  • Day 1

    Welcome to Dordogne

    Your guides will greet you at the train station in Soulliac, and we’ll set off into the countryside. We’ll toast our arrival during a light lunch at Château de la Treyne, our breathtaking hotel perched atop the Dordogne river. After a bike fitting and safety talk, we’ll start our cycling trip with a loop ride in the surrounding countryside, plunging into the forests and gorges that have made the Dordogne famous for its natural beauty. Tonight we will toast to a wonderful week ahead of us as we dine at a chic local bistro.

    Getting to Know Rocamadour

    Visit the historical monuments and Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Rocamadour. Ride in the footsteps of pilgrims from every country—among them kings, bishops, and nobles—who have trekked to this site over hundreds of years. Rocamadour is a place unlike any other, set in a gorge perched above the river and built among the rocks and trees. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch as your guides teach you about the exceptional specialty goat cheese named after the town. After visiting this incredible village, we’ll wind our way through the scenic countryside back to our riverside retreat. Relax a bit at the hotel before we dine in luxury in its Michelin-starred restaurant.

  • Day 3

    La Dordogne by Canoe

    Wake up today and get energized with a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit and pastries. We’ll start with a breathtaking ride through the rolling countryside, passing by hillside villages, châteaux, and vast forests. Arriving at Vitrac, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch and relax before switching gears and hopping in some canoes to explore the region from the Dordogne River: the area’s original highway. Paddle along with the river’s current, passing by châteaux built right into the cliffs above. Upon arrival at Castlenaud, we’ll enjoy a refreshing glass of wine under the shadow of the Château, an important castle during the Hundred Years War. We’ll then transfer to Sarlat-la-Canéda, one of the most famous towns in France for medieval art and history. Here we will discover our next stunning hotel, Clos la Boëtie. Tonight we’ll indulge in an authentic Dordogne meal at our favorite local restaurant.

  • Day 4

    A Ride Through Pre-History

    Today we’ll delve into Dordogne’s rich history as we ride through the Forêt Domainale Barade. Enjoy cycling through the lush countryside before stopping for a refreshing lunch en route to Lascaux II. Be amazed by the perfect replicas of real-life paintings left by Cro-Magnon people in this complex series of caves that are over 17,000 years old. Rolling through the countryside on our return ride to Sarlat, we’ll spot an abundance of agricultural and culinary specialties of the region: walnut trees, ducks, and the geese which become the famed walnut oil and foie gras. Tonight you are free to explore Sarlat’s excellent bistros and try them yourself.

  • Day 5

    Castles and Panoramas

    After a tasty breakfast, we’ll start the day with a shuttle to nearby Beynac-et-Cazenac, a medieval town frozen in time, topped with yet another fully intact medieval castle. After some time to explore the château and soak in the views, we’ll start our journey west towards the famous sweet wine region of Monbazillac. Pass charming villages and stop to admire the manors and château scattered through the region. We’ll enjoy a cafe lunch in the center of Le Buisson de Cadouin. After our arrival at our last hotel, Le Vieux Logis, we’re in for a treat with a savory feast in the hotel’s elegant restaurant.

    Bid farewell to this stunning region with a final optional loop ride or some more time relaxing at your beautiful hotel. Your guides will then transfer you to Marmande where they will see you off at the train station.
